16 – 22 September, 2005: Women’s Gathering - Innu, Cree and Inuit women from the Region were invited to Kawawachikamach to: celebrate health and social development through discussions and representations of culture, tradition, customs and values; reflect and share ideas and knowledge in an effort to build mutual support amongst Aboriginal women; share and develop strategies/resources in the struggle to eliminate conjugal and family violence, substance abuse, sexual abuse, and other dysfunctional family situations; develop a holistic approach towards healing and spirituality. Funding and in-kind for both Gatherings came from a variety of federal and provincial departments, and private companies. A complete list of sponsors will be posted at a later date.

11 – 15 September: Elders’ Gathering - Elders from Innu, Cree and Inuit communities in the region came celebrate and exchange traditional knowledge about our cultures and traditions at a camp near Kawawachikamach.

On June 28, 2004, the Naskapi community suffered a tremendous loss when Chief Elijah Einish passed away. Deputy Chief Jimmy James Einish, took over the position for Chief until the election of the new chief. As the community mourned and still mourns the loss of late Chief Elijah Einish, the date for the election of Chief and one councillor was set for October 12, 2004. The results of the election were new Chief – Mr. Jimmy James Einish, and the new councillor is Mr. Simon Einish.

The 2003 Regional Native Games were held in Mashteuiatsh on 6 to 13 July, 2003. There were 21 participants and 9 chaperons. All 30 persons left for Sept-Iles by train on July 4, 2003. They spent one night in Sept Iles, and early morning July 5, 2003 left for Mashteuiatsh. Accomodations and meals were all provided by local school. The team finished 11th place out of 16 communities. They won 4 gold medals, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals. In the Benjamin category, Lizzie Tooma won a gold medal in Table Tennis. Under the Junior category, Luke Wesley Einish won a gold medal in Badminton, Edward Chemaganish won the silver medal in Table Tennis, Steven Noah Mameanskum won 3 gold medals in Cross Country, Long Jump and 5000m run, he also won a bronze medal in 200 metres. The boys basketball team also won the silver medal under the Junior category but also the male Athlete of the Regional Native Inter-Bandes game 2003. Karate Championship – On March 21 – 23, 2003, the National Junior Karate Championship was held in Kawawachikamach, QC. There were 97 participants from outsite the Schefferville area, 16 Naskapi participants, and 17 Montagnais participants. A brief tour was given to the visitor upon their arrival. Accomodations and meals were provided by J.S.M.S. and various organizations from the Naskapi community. This was a first ever event for the Kawawachikamach community and viewed as a very interesting cultural excgange between the south and Schefferville community as a whole. The championship was considered a great success, due to the involvement of the Nation Concil and the entire Naskapi Community coming out to support and cheer for their athletes.
